New cooking classes in Paphos
September heralds autumn and the start of new activities. For cooks “in the kitchen” the School of Gastronomy at the Secret Valley Golf Club in Kouklia is welcoming new students.

Held on the second Wednesday of each month, these fun, informal classes are devised for cooks who have some experience in the kitchen and wish to expand their expertise.

September’s class focuses on “Saucy Pasta” with tips for preparing a selection of dressings for Italy’s most famous food on the programme. Participants observe club Master Chef George Halkides making the dishes then dine together on what has been prepared on the pleasant golf club veranda.

The two-hour workshop/demonstration will start with a welcome coffee followed by ideas and tips on how to prepare a range of pasta sauces to perfection.

“There’s absolutely no substitute for touching, feeling and tasting mouth-watering cuisine,” said Halkides.

Different international cuisines are covered in the programme; Spanish, Indian and Mediterranean cooking are some of the examples covered in past sessions with a range of starters, mains and desserts featured.

“It was great that we had the opportunity of participating and try the food during the preparation process,” said regular participant Gardy Wiechern of a recent workshop.

“I will certainly recommend the class to interested cooks. One thing is certain, I took home a wealth of tips that I will use in my own cooking process not to mention, memories of the nice surrounding and my fantastic fellow students. I also found the fee excellent value for money.”

The Secret Valley School of Gastronomy, established in 2013, has been a hit with local foodies who want to pick up cooking tips about their favourite cuisines, as well as be introduced to new ones.

“Saucy Pasta” takes place at 10:30am on September 13. The cost for participation is €18 which includes an arrival beverage, the demonstration, ingredients and tasting following the class.

Additional food and drinks are payable direct to the venue. There is also the option of subscribing for membership which entitles participation in 10 classes, two bottles of wine from Vounia Panayia winery and a branded apron.

The cost is €125. For information and booking, call 99 987 672 or go to Secret Valley School of Gastronomy Facebook page.
